Your Mikenet Account- Key to Technology Resources

Your Mikenet Account- Key to Technology Resources

Saint Michael’s College provides access to a variety of technology resources to help you do your work.

Mikenet

Your Mikenet account is the key to your campus computing needs.  Resources available from a Mikenet account include:

  • MySMC access
  • Network space for file storage
  • Campus computer logins
  • Access to library and other campus resources
  • Access to networked course applications
  • Use of campus networked printers
  • Wireless accessibility.

Newly-hired employees should automatically receive their Mikenet accounts upon their arrival to campus.  However, if for some reason you find you do NOT have a Mikenet account, you may apply for one online at http://www.smcvt.edu/itweb/helpdesk/forms.asp,  or in person at the Helpdesk in Saint Edmund’s Hall, Room 221C.  Before requesting a Mikenet account, employees should make sure all their paperwork for employment has been filled out, signed, and returned to the Human Resources office.

Upon first logon to Mikenet, whether you log in to your SMC email account or sign onto a campus computer, you’ll be required to change the password.

If you use your personal computer to connect to a campus resource, you‘ll need to register it before you can use our network.  To register your personal computer, open your browser while on campus. You’ll be redirected to the registration site, where your computer will be automatically checked to ensure you have up-to-date virus software. If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact the Helpdesk at x2020.

MySMC

MySMC (my.smcvt.edu) is the internal website where the entire campus  community can access email, announcements, campus events, a personal calendar, a campus bulletin board, and links to other College resources.  Your Mikenet username and password will give you easy entry—be sure to either bookmark this valuable site or make it the default window on your browser.

Email

Saint Michael’s College provides Microsoft Exchange email accounts for faculty and staff use.   Each email account provides 1GB of email storage and is available off campus via the Internet from http://smcmail.smcvt.edu.   The email address for faculty and staff is <<username>>@smcvt.edu.  Exchange email accounts have the same username and password as Mikenet accounts.

Students are also provided with email accounts through a separate email system.  Their email addresses are <<username>>@mail.smcvt.edu

Canvas

Canvas by Instructure is the course management system at Saint Michaels.  Access to your Canvas account is through My.SMCVT.edu.  Faculty members post assignments, resources, announcements, current grades, and other information for their students on Canvas.

All Saint Michaels College courses are set up in Canvas before each semester begins, and students are automatically registered for their classes once they have completed the academic registration process.  Faculty who want assistance with designing their Canvas course should contact the Canvas Lab at x2088, or via email at acrowley@smcvt.edu

Knightvision

Knight Vision is a web-based application used for advising, class rosters, and on-line registration for classes. Faculty use KnightVision to view information about their advisees, and to see their class rosters and information about course offerings.  KnightVision provides students with real-time information about their class schedules, their grades and their standing in relation to degree requirements.  Staff members use KnightVision to review budget information.

Access to Knightvision is through My.SMCVT.edu.
