Opening Personal Folders

Opening Personal Folders (.pst)

Personal Folders are folders you can create in Outlook for offline mail storage. This process will show you how to open a previously saved .pst. The mail stored in .pst files are taken off of our mail server, and thus are no longer backed-up, so this process in not recommended. Please consult with an IT staff member before using .pst files so we can ensure your mail is stored securely.

Steps:

  1. In Outlook, while on the File tab, select Open & Export -> Open Outlook Data File. It will open a dialog box asking you to locate your .pst file.

        2. Once you choose your .pst file you’ll see an entirely new inbox in your folder list (on the left) with the same name as your .pst file. Please remember that any messages/folders       stored in this folder will no longer show up in your webmail (https://smcmail.smcvt.edu) as they are no longer stored on our mail server.
