How to update Mozilla Firefox

Canvas works best when using the most up to date internet browsers, and if your browser is not up to date, Canvas will give you a notification saying that the browser does not meet the minimum requirements. We recommend using Mozilla Firefox when accessing and editing your Canvas courses. Both Firefox and Google Chrome are the preferred browsers. Firefox is already loaded on all computers issued by the school, however it may not be fully up to date.

If you are receiving a notification from Canvas that your browser is not up to date, follow these instructions for updating it:

1. Open Firefox. If you are on a school issued computer (laptop or desktop) and Firefox does not show up on the task bar at the bottom of your screen or on your desktop, go to the Start menu then type “Firefox” and hit enter. It should show up and open Firefox.

2. In the upper left hand corner of the window, there should be an orange box that says Firefox inside. Click on this box to open the menu.

3. Once you open the menu, go to “Help” in the blue on the right side of the menu, then
“About Firefox”

4. A new window should pop up with the Firefox logo. It will automatically start downloading the next update to the browser.

5. Once the download is complete, a button will show up where it was showing the
download progress. This button should say “Restart to Update,” click on this button.

6. This will close Firefox, load the update, and then reopen Firefox when complete. It will look a little different.
